Julieanna Preston, “A Letter Last: When I’M Calling You-ou-ou-ooooooo” in Global Performance Studies special issue Sonic Wanderings, vol. 12 (2025).

This performance writing essay recalls a live, durational, place-situated performance HARK (2021) as a last letter to a collection that call out to my great grandmother Stança, originally from Croatia and now buried in Illinois USA. These letters and this work are one of the ways I have grappled with being an immigrant, Tangata Pākehā to Aotearoa with not much knowledge or experience of my own heritage. In making this work, I came to find out many small facts about her, and more so, to find my situation all too common. This is an essay and creative work that commits to being here.
